Israel's Home Front Command has decided to begin distributing gas masks to every citizen beginning late next month, Haaretz reports.
"It is not a sign of fear but of greater preparedness. Whoever is planning to fire missiles at Israel should know that we are ready to protect our population," a security source said.
The plan, which originally called for only 60 percent of the population to receive protection kits, will be implemented over the next three years at a cost of about three billion shekels.
