EDITORIAL: AFGHANISTAN

Why did the Russians leave Afghanistan? They were fighting a proxy war with America, had an implaccable foe and lacked the political will to win.

Prior to the Russians the Brits spent years fighting in Afghanistan, but they left. They left because they were fighting an implacable foe in their own country who were abetted by the indigenous population and did not have the will to win.

Why will America loose? First it has no political will to win. It erred in allowing Afghanistan sovereignty. You cannot control events if others are calling the tune. The population is largely opposed to Western culture and aids the GUERRILLAS either as brethren or through intimidation.

Any nation that is not willing to do whatever it takes to win ought to loose.

The USA has the ability to win any war, but lacks the support of our own population. As long as that prevails we will NEVER win any war. Perhaps the American people must fear for the life of the nation or the government and the press must deter descent as occurred during WWII.
