I wish Dr. Hamid well, but I don't think it is possible to extract a "peaceful and theoretically valid interpretation" from the Quran. There is nothing peaceful about Islam.
No matter how you boil it down, if you call yourself a Muslim, you must take into consideration what the Quran says. You must abide by the principle of abrogation.
Mohamed became more violent as he got older. Islam became more violent as a consequence.
A "moderate" Muslim is just a step away from being a radical.
All that is needed to change the thinking of a moderate is the influence of a radical imam.
In actuality, there can be no moderate Muslims.
A moderate would be someone who really doesn't practice Islam.
Muslims, to be credible, must denounce the radical element of their cult and the deeds of these radicals.
As of this date, I have not heard of any Muslim group anywhere that has apologized to the United States for murdering 3,000 people on 9/11.
Those who might apologize would be silenced, if you take my meaning.
In addition, Islam and democracy can NEVER have anything in common.
Islam does not teach that all people are created equal.
Islam is a political system whose goal is to eliminate every other political system and to establish sharia law. It is a political system that has a cult associated with it that is designed to manipulate the masses.
And that is just for starters.
