Let Us Never Forget
Peace Starts With a WH Dinner
On September 27, 2010, in Blog, by Farid Ghadry
As Palestinians and Israelis struggle to find peace, my memory is drifting to the time when President Obama "neglected" to invite PM Netanyahu to dinner the first time they met and after they held a meeting at the White House. Had Obama been more respectful of heads of states, he may not be scrambling today to save the peace he invested so much in it. Many would have gone out of their way to pay him back in kindness but instead, many feel no such obligation. As hard as Netanyahu tries to find the elusive peace both Palestinians and Israelis wish upon their people, I do not believe he wants Obama to get the credit for it.
The same show of disrespect happened when Obama visited France on the occasion of D-Day in early June of this year. Both President Sarkozy and the French First Lady Carla Bruni invited the Obamas to dinner. But both snubbed Mr. and Mrs. Sarkozy. The result: Carla Bruni paid Michelle Obama back by disclosing in her recent book that the First Lady confessed that her life at the White House was like "hell".
As Obama loses his luster, he is quickly finding out that his elitist and acrimonious personality is pressing him against the wall. A lame duck president after only 2 years at the White House? Unheard of in US politics
